Global Lead Network: Policy & Legislation
Policy & Legislation
Policy »
The characteristics of lead poisoning and pollution dictate the nature of policy solutions. The irreversibility of lead poisoning and lead’s ubiquity in the environment mean that solutions to lead poisoning must be preventive and interdisciplinary in nature. Moving from the belated response inherent in the reigning medical case management model of identifying and tracking victims to proactive policies aimed at source control is at the core of the Network’s efforts. This section presents lead commitments in key international agreements, as well as documents, background papers, and policy statements that outline a comprehensive and coordinated framework for intersectoral actions for lead poisoning prevention from the community to the international level.
Legislation »
This area of the site provides summaries of existing legislation designed to advance phase-out and primary prevention. Advocates, policymakers, and others interested in developing phase-out and/or primary prevention legislation can use these examples as adaptable models to promote and develop new legislation in their own countries. Users can also submit legislation to be included on the website.
